AFIS Director & Chair, Peter Hogan, shares his thoughts;

Whenever I see luggage in old photos it looks heavy. None of it had wheels. It took until the 1970s for somebody to realise that two wheels were better than none.

Sometimes we don’t know what would be a good idea until it appears. Then we all wonder why the hell we hadn’t thought of it ages ago.

Heads of independent schools set up their first professional association in 1869. Bursars got a representative body in 1932 and in 2002 a group was created for governors so all independent school bases were covered. Or were they?

Nobody asked the question: Why isn’t there a group to represent the parents?

At last, the first national association for parents has been launched. It is not-for-profit, unaffiliated to political parties, it has no shareholders and aims to support and inform families in the sector. It isn’t a lobby group, it isn’t a think tank, it isn’t funded by schools. It’s all about parents, it’s run by parents and it’s for parents. Simple.

Independent school leaders are recognising the benefits and opportunity to collaborate with AFIS in championing parental choice, fairer representation and wider access to independent schooling. Thanks for joining and supporting!

AFIS Partner Schools have been central to the rapid growth AFIS has achieved in just a few weeks. I invite other schools to join us.

I wonder why we didn’t think about doing this ages ago. https://www.afis.org.uk/register
